About Us

We believe in the humanities, the power of art, the power of voice, the power of community, and the power of the individual. Through open conversation, creative engagement, and community mobilization, we aim to make genuine, lasting impacts in the lives of survivors, volunteers, and sponsors alike, unified in a concerted effort to heal.

To see this in action, visit our programs and initiatives page.

Survivors Speak

Survivors Speak engages in the community and amplifies the voices of victims and survivors through true, genuine public outcry.

Through these outcries, through having a voice that can be heard, we believe that victims and survivors can begin their journey on a path to healing and self-discovery.

Survivors Speak

We foster an environment where you can speak openly, free from judgment, about any of your sufferings. We make sure that you’re heard, understood, and amplified in a way that helps others. We aim to equip you with all the necessary tools to adapt, overcome, and transform your pain into something greater, something that can benefit not only you, but humanity as a whole.

Turning Vision Into Action

Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take risks. Survivors Speak emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words.

CONNECTING SURVIVORS WITH RESOURCES

Taking Action

We are committed to demanding change in our community, where it is most needed! We believe that working together, with those who also believe in true justice, strengthens our impact, and brings us closer to the change we require.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Helping the community

Healing is at the core of our mission, and we strive to live up to the words that are displayed on our bumper stickers “we are a threat to injustice!”. To support this value, we organize and participate actively in activist protests.

Ongoing Initiatives

Below you can see some of the programs and initiatives that we’ve spear-headed:

Wrongful Conviction Submit.jpg
Wrongful Conviction Summit

Wrongful convictions are an all too regular part of our society. Worse yet, there are so many people who remain ignorant of the frequency and true cost of being a victim of this atrocity. To address this, Survivors Speak began hosting the annual Wrongful Conviction Summit in 2019, inviting individuals, families, legislators, and community members.

Juneteenth Celebrations

Juneteenth is a holiday that we here at Survivors Speak hold near to our hearts, and we proudly display this during the Juneteenth Celebrations! We work with the city of Ypsilanti and other community organizations, such as the Puffer Reds, to make these celebrations possible.

Upcoming Events

Join us for our upcoming events this year!

Volunteers

There are always obstacles to volunteering, and we know that your time is a valuable resource, but we believe that the sacrifice is undeniably worth the reward; the feeling of knowing that a difference is being made by your efforts. That is precisely what Survivors Speak is all about, driving that difference. But we can’t do it alone. We need dedicated individuals who are willing and ready to invest themselves in helping others, and in creating a better present, and a better future.

Protest Signs

“We can change the world and make it a better place. It is in our hands to make a difference.”
– Nelson Mandela

Sponsors

We understand the gravity of the decision to invest in a non-profit organization. Whether you represent a foundation, business, or individual, our goal is to ensure that the investment you provide truly makes a difference. At Survivors Speak we are proud that the measurable impact on our community has been substantial.
